The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. (GCG) was organized in 1928, and in 1959 under the leadership of GCG President Mrs. Nathaniel Turner, the state organization voted to divide the 777 state garden clubs into six districts, with clubs in Redbud being a part of the sixth district, Dogwood. At the second annual Dogwood District meeting on January 10, 1961 at the Capital City Country Club in Atlanta with 182 members in attendance, including GCG President Fulcher and Dogwood District Director Burdett, delegates voted by a large majority to subdivide Dogwood District with its 225 clubs. Mrs. Hamby of Decatur was endorsed as the first District Director of the seventh district, Redbud, of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc.
