Redbud District Awards, recognizing outstanding accomplishments by clubs, are presented at the Annual Fall District Meeting. Some awards are determined by information provided on the GCG President’s Report, and others will require an Awards Application. The application can be found on the Redbud District’s website. All Redbud trophies are retained by the District Awards Chairman. Certificates are presented to award winners to keep. Trophies are no longer engraved with the winner’s name.
1. Jerry Tubb Award of the Year - Silver Traveling Trophy presented March 1969 and replaced March 1988 by Jerry Tubb, 1967 Director, may be awarded to the club with the highest score on the President’s Report. (no application required)
2. Grace Chandler Award - Brass Trophy presented April 1971 & replaced with a Silver Traveling Trophy in 1989 by Grace Chandler, 1968-1971 Director, may be awarded at the Annual District Meeting to the club whose membership is 20 members or less having the highest percentage of members in attendance. (no application required)
3A. Hallie Brown Schedule Award - An Award presented April 1973 & replaced with a Crystal Traveling Trophy by Hallie Brown, 1971-1973 Co-Director, may be awarded to a club for the most creative flower show schedule submitted to the Redbud District Flower Show Schedules & Evaluations Chairman during the awards year. 3B. Ruth Sullivan Schedule Award - A Silver Traveling Trophy presented October 2003 by Alice Boyd, Redbud Awards Chairman, in honor of Ruth Sullivan, Director 1979-1981, may be awarded to a group of Redbud Clubs or Redbud Council for the most creative schedule submitted to Redbud District Flower Show Schedules Chairman during the awards year. 4. Lullwater Gavel Award - Mahogany Traveling Gavel presented October 1974 by Elinore Wilson, 1971-1973 Director, may be awarded to the club applying for the most State awards as reported on the President’s Report. (no application required)
5. Gladys Manning Garden Therapy Award - Silver Traveling Trophy presented April 1976 by Lib Anderson, 1973-1975 Director, in honor of Gladys Manning, 1973-1975 Garden Therapy Chairman, may be awarded to the club presenting the most outstanding Garden Therapy Project. (application required)
6. Rita Compher Scholarship Award - Silver Traveling Trophy presented February 1977 by Lib Anderson, 1973- 1975 Director, in honor of Rita Compher, 1975-1977 Director. This award is awarded to the club that gives the largest amount (as averaged per member) to GCG scholarship fund as reported in the President’s Report. (no application required)
7. Dorothy W. Hightower Community Improvement Award - Silver Traveling Trophy presented October 1987 by Spade and Trowel Garden Club, Thomaston, in memory of Dorothy W. Hightower, may be awarded to the club presenting the most outstanding Community Improvement Project/Projects. (application required)
8. Mimosa Garden Club Historic Preservation Award - Crystal Traveling Trophy presented May 1988 by Virginia Kelly, 1987-1989 Historic Preservation Chairman, in honor of Mimosa Garden Club, Jackson, may be awarded to the club presenting the most outstanding Historic Preservation Project. (application required)
9. Cookie Roland History Award - Silver Traveling Trophy presented June 1989 by Tom L. Roland in honor of Mrs. Tom L. Roland (Cookie), 1983-1985 Director, may be presented to the club or council presenting the most outstanding 10, 25, 40, 50, or 60 and above year history. District Certificates must be awarded to a first place winner in each class with the Silver Trophy awarded to the overall winner. History must be submitted to the State Historian & Archivist Chairman with a copy sent to the Redbud District Historian & Archivist Chairman by March 30. (no application required)
10. Margaret Strickland Birds & Butterfly Garden Program Award - Silver Traveling Trophy presented April 1993 by James N. Strickland in honor of Mrs. James N. Strickland (Margaret), 1991-1993 Director, may be awarded to the most outstanding program by a club emphasizing the protection of birds &/or butterflies. (application required)
11. Virginia Britton Kelly Garden Fragrance Program Award - Silver Traveling Trophy presented January 1994 by Mimosa Garden Club, Jackson, in memory of Virginia Britton Kelly, club member and 1993-1995 District Blue Star Marker Chairman, may be presented for an outstanding garden program by a club member on fragrance in the garden. (application required)
12. Betty McKissick Butterfly Gardening Award - Silver Traveling Trophy presented October 1995 by Betty McKissick, 1993-1995 Director, to recognize butterfly gardening by individual clubs may be awarded at the Annual District meeting to a club for an outstanding butterfly gardening project that serves as an educational example to attract butterflies and to enhance the local community. 13. Dian Goldwire Attendance Award - Silver Traveling Trophy presented March 1977 by Mickie Holton, District Awards Chairman, in honor of Dian Goldwire, 1995- 1997 Director, may be awarded at the Annual District Meeting to a garden club whose membership is 21 members or more having the highest number of their members in attendance. 14. Deanna McFarlan Club Newsletter Award - Silver Traveling Trophy presented February 1997 by Rita Compher, 1975-1977 Director, in honor of Deanna McFarlan, 1985-1987 Director, may be awarded to a garden club for the best club newsletter submitted for the awards year. Newsletters must be published at least 3 times a year. Attach one sample newsletter to your President’s Report. (no application required)
15. Mary Helen Lindsey Youth Award - Pewter Traveling Trophy presented October 2004 by Jane Johnson, 2003-05 Director, in honor of Mary Helen Lindsey, 2003-05 and long time Youth Chairman, may be awarded to the club or council presenting the most comprehensive youth project. (application required)
16. Joy Walker Stuart Redbud District Member of the Year Award - A silver traveling trophy in honor of Joy Walker Stuart (Redbud District Director 1989-1991 and State President 2001-2003), given in 2005 by her husband, Dr. William H. Stuart, Atlanta, may be awarded yearly at the annual Redbud District Meeting. A letter of nomination outlining a Redbud District member for contributions, accomplishments and participation in a local garden club, council, district and state is required. A narrative form should be used throughout the contents of the entry, substituting “this nominee” for the nominee’s given name. The name of the nominee, address and garden club should be placed in a sealed envelope and received by the current Redbud District Director, Deadline: March 30. The entry will be judged by the Redbud District Director, Redbud District Co-Director and Redbud District Awards Chairman. There will be only one winner for this award. The current Executive Board and former Redbud District Directors are not eligible. (no application required).
17. Lorraine Loftis Redbud Membership Award - Based on largest percentage increase in membership over the past year as reflected in state dues paid as reported on the President's report. (no application required)
18. National Garden Week Award - The club that has the most outstanding National Garden Week program. (application required)
19. Garden Week in Georgia Award - The club that has the most outstanding Garden Week in Georgia program. (application required)
